Years 12-13

We offer two courses for Year 12-13:

  • AQA GCSE English Language

  • AQA B GCE English Literature

The A-Level course perfectly equips students for further study or the world of work. Students study contemporary and classic Literature and respond to it critically and creatively.

So what do you study?

AQA GCSE English Language:

Paper 1 - Creative Reading and Writing - 50%

  • Reading and analysing fiction;

  • Writing fiction.

Paper 2 - Writer's Viewpoints and Perspectives - 50%

  • Reading and analysing non-fiction;

  • Writing non-fiction.

Spoken Assessment:

  • Separate endorsement - speaking and listening presentation. 

AQA B GCE English Literature:

Paper 1 - Literary Genres: Tragedy - 40%

  • Othello;

  • Death of a Salesman;

  • Keats.

Paper 2 - Texts and Genres: Crime - 40%

  • Antonement;

  • Poetry: Crabbe, Wilde and Browning;

  • Brighton Rock.

NEA: Theory and Independence Coursework - 20%

  • Feminism response;

  • Marxism response.
