Our Curriculum
Years 7-9
Here at De Aston, we have introduced a new curriculum for Years 7-9, aimed to inspire and excite students while allowing them to consolidate their skills, knowledge and understanding with a focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar; key skills needed for success in any subject. Students in Years 7-9 will explore genre, poetry and a wide range of contemporary Literature from our vast collection as well as classic Literature to stretch and challenge.
Years 10-11
We have introduced new and rigorous GCSE specifications, AQA English Language and AQA English Literature, for our new GCSE cohort. We believe these new specifications will foster the passion for English that my department shows with such dedication.
These are graded using the 9-1 system, with 4 being a 'standard pass' and grade 5 being deemed a 'good pass'. Students must achieve a Grade 4 in English Language to access further education.
Years 12-13
Years 12 and 13, we continue to study AQA English Literature B A2 which is rich and varied in its text choice and provides our students with comprehensive reading skills and understanding, allowing them the perfect transition for Further Education or the world of work. In addition, our Year 12 GCSE group will follow the AQA GCSE English Language course, to maximise their opportunity of achieving at least a C grade by the end of the year.
